Fall 2020 Construction Update

Welcome to the FHPS construction blog! This is where you can follow along with construction updates, funded by Forest Hills Public Schools' 2018 Bond Proposal.

Projects completed or in progress, in 2020

Construction projects this past year have focused largely on the three high schools.
  • Forest Hills Central High School, Athletic Complex: This project is being completed in two phases and has been strategically phased around our athletic schedule.

  • Forest Hills Northern High School, Project Next: This major renovation project is currently under construction.

  • Forest Hills Eastern Middle/High School, Collaboration Centers & Industrial Arts Addition: Project-based learning renovations were completed this past summer. The industrial arts addition is currently underway.

Meet the construction site leaders!

  • Jeff Diemer, Forest Hills Northern: Jeff holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and a master's from Penn State. He has 22 years of commercial construction experience and has been overseeing the construction project at Forest Hills Northern since construction began in 2020.

  • Rick Lineberry, Forest Hills Central: Rick is a veteran construction leader with 38 years of experience, and is also a U.S. Navy veteran who served 4 years of active duty and 1 year in the Reserves. Rick specializes in complex sitework and athletic construction and is overseeing the two-phase athletic project at Central High School.

  • Jean Leahy, Forest Hills Eastern: Jane's love of construction began as a child, working alongside her father, a professional landscaper. She holds a bachelor's in construction management from Ferris State University, and was hired at O-A-K after completing a successful internship on site with the firm at the Frederik Meijer Gardens project. Jane jumped at the opportunity to work with FHPS and is currently overseeing her second project at Forest Hills Eastern High School.

Coming up in 2021

Next year, we transition our focus onto the elementary buildings with three distinct designs, focused on 21st-Century learning.

The architectural designs for Orchard View, Collins, and Thornapple Elementary were completed this year. The latter two will be out to bid to contractors shortly.

  • Orchard View Elementary Additions & Renovations: Currently under construction, this $9.9 million transformation project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2022.

  • Collins Elementary Renovations: This $5.3 million renovation project will begin in April 2021 and be complete in June 2023.

  • Thornapple Elementary Renovations: This $5.25 million renovation is scheduled to begin in April 2021 with completion in December 2022.
