Orchard View Elementary project in full-swing

Updated: Jan 7, 2021

Construction at Orchard View Elementary began this past September and is strategically phased over the next two years, to ensure the safety of students, staff and community members.

Scope includes four new classrooms, a gymnasium replacement, and renovations throughout the entire building, to promote shared learning and create group learning environments.

Gymnasium & Classroom Additions

Currently, masons are hard at work building the walls around the new gymnasium, which is located just to the east of the former gym space. That space was demolished to make room for new classrooms. Those new classrooms are also under construction, with concrete floors scheduled to be poured later this week.

Crews are working rain or shine, to make as much progress as possible before the winter months. The additions will be ongoing through August of 2021, and will be ready in time for the 2021/2022 school year.

Existing classroom renovations

All classrooms will be renovated and refreshed with new flooring, lighting, ceilings - and most will receive new casework (cabinetry). Classroom entrances are also being "opened up" with glass alcoves that promote observational learning.

Reconfigurations throughout the building will provide new group work rooms for every four classrooms, featuring flexible space for learning in a safe and nurturing environment.

The classrooms are being renovated in groups of four, to work around ongoing school operations in a safe environment. The current phase of renovations are scheduled for completion over Christmas Break.

Renovation work will be ongoing until the 2022/2023 school year.
